When Bollywood was taken for a ride - Ranbir Kapoor ditched his swanky car for a three wheeler! We take a look at moments when celebs chose the aam aadmis autoricksaw over their four wheels.

After the screening of Dev Anand’s Hum Dono in colour, at a theatre in Mumbai last week, the actor and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali hailed an auto and left, much to the surprise of the spectators. According to eyewitnesses, the two were waiting for Ranbir’s red audi when they caught by a bunch of fans and decided to leave in auto. Of course, Ranbir’s bouncer accompanied them! Ranbir had earlier taken an auto the airport and described it as the “best ride I ever had”.

Last month, the actor was getting late for an event and to add to it, her car broke down. Instead of waiting for another car or the driver to fix the flat tyre, PC and her mananger hopped into an auto and made it in time for the conference. The actor also gave the auto driver an autograph. “I didn’t want to create a traffic congestion,” the actor had said.

Kat had gone to catch Ishqiya at a theatre in Mumbai and couldn’t get through to her driver after the film finished. When the actor felt that she was getting mobbed for pictures and autograph requests, she asked her business manager to call an auto. The two got into one and rode on, while her bouncers followed in another auto.
Salman Khan
Salman has not just taken autorickshaw rides in Mumbai but also drove the three wheeler once. The actor was returning from a restaurant with Katrina and spotted an auto. He asked the driver to let him drive and asked him to sit in the car with Kat. Saalu also left actor Amrita Arora’s sangeet in an auto. However, his bouncers stopped the driver a few yards away and whisked Salman into his car.
Vivek Oberoi
Last month, actor Vivek Oberoi arrived at the Chennai Open in an autorickshaw with Pakistani player Aisam Qureshi. South star Suriya followed them in another auto. Even as spectators looked on amazed, the actors waved from their rickshaws and stepped out to give autographs and pose for pictures.
Other celebs spotted in autos
When Brangelina came to India to shoot for A Mighty Heart in 2006, they took an auto ride in Pune, with son Maddox. The ride cost them Rs 12.
Bipasha Basu often hops into autos in Mumbai. The actor says that is her favourite form of transport when her driver is on leave.
Filmmakers Sohail Khan and Goldie Behl also take the three wheeler often.
Not just autos, celebs hop onto trains as well
Amrita Rao
The actor was once stuck in a traffic jam and getting late for work. "I put on a cap, my sunglasses and took the local train. It was a short distance," she says.
Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi took the metro from Dwarka to Connaught place to beat the heavy traffic due to rain when he arrived in Delhi from Raipur. Gandhi alo took the local train in Mumbai- from Dadar to ghatkopar to defy shiv Sena and tell them that Mumbai is for all Indians. Gandhi even withdrew money from an ATM to buy his ticket.
Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir took a local train from Andheri to Mahim to promote his film Rajneeti last year. Dressed in a crisp white kurta pyajama, Ranbir travelled with other passengers and was predictably mobbed by a few ladies.
Gul Panag
Actor Gul Panag often travels by train. In fact, the actor even got locked in a train toilet once while travelling in the Shatabdi express to Chandigarh.
Raj Thackeray
Maharashthra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray took the local train earlier this month, after 25 years, to beat traffic congestion. Thackeray took the train from Dombivili to Dadar and said he might do it again. ( hindustantimes.com )
