It was Ronaldo's first appearance at Real's home ground since he refused to celebrate either of his goals against Granada on September 2nd, and while he was clearly delighted with his strike and enjoyed the moment with his team-mates, he insisted he had no regrets about his recent comments.
“I celebrate when I need to celebrate," he said. "It was a very important match and now we’re in the battle.
"This topic has been spoken about too much; are you never sad? Everyone in the world has the right to feel sad [so] I don’t regret any of the things I have said.
"Today I am happy because it was a very good match. In the first half we had chances that we didn’t convert but the second half was perfect and we got a major victory.
"We believed we could win the game and we did. We knew we could score, we did and deserved to."
Edin Dzeko and Alexsandar Kolarov had twice put City ahead before goals by Marcelo and Karim Benzema. Ronaldo secured three points for the home side in the final minute in what was the first round of matches in this season's Champions League campaign.
Victory was crucial for Real who have made a less than impressive start to their domestic campaign having succumbed to a second defeat of the season last weekend against Sevilla.
"It was a crazy match but I think we played well from the first to the last minute," Ronaldo added. "The team fought well, I didn’t feel the pressure and the important thing now is that Madrid fans are happy." ( telegraph.co.uk )
