David and Victoria Beckham pregnancy: how Posh Spice can tell its a baby girl - David Beckham and his wife Victoria are expecting their fourth baby in the summer and she has regularly said she would like to have her first girl. So what are the alternative ways to finding out if you should invest in pink?

• an old wives' tale (as many of these suggestions are) holds that a low baby bump means it's a boy and a high one means it's a girl.

• if the unborn baby's heart rate is above 140, it's a girl... if it's under that figure, it's a boy (but scientists suggest this is nonsense).

• what is she craving? If Victoria's hankering after sweets and scoffing the Milk Tray entire, she's more likely to get that girl but sour cravings have been linked to boy babies (but not by scientists).

• has Goldenballs packed on the pounds? The story goes that if both Mr and Mrs put on weight, a girl is on the way. Otherwise, yes, you guessed it.

• If Mrs B's slender face gets a bit more like an English rose, i.e. rounder and rosier, it's a girl. Or maybe a boy.

• Some women claim that a larger left breast means it's a girl. I can't find how it works if they're false.

• Old maids have insisted that dangling a pendant over the mother-to-be's palm or belly and watching its movements shows the gender. Back and forth means a boy, round and round means a girl. Or perhaps the after-effects of that espresso.

• If Victoria has a spare key at Beckingham Palace she could pick it up. Apparently, if you grasp the thin end it's a girl. Congratulations.

• Guess. One study found that 71 per cent of mothers-to-be correctly guessed the gender of their baby. ( telegraph.co.uk )
