Most had been keeping an eye out for green slime and glitzy celebrity guests but it was Michelle Obama’s daring wardrobe choice which had the fashion set glued to last night's Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The First Lady stepped out in a sequin jacket, designed by New York-based designer Wes Gordon, for the star-studded event which she attended with her daughters Malia, 13 and Sasha, 10.
Mrs Obama’s two girls also helped shine the light on lesser-known designers, both wearing designs by UK-based shopping website ASOS.

Malia wore a detailed leather Obi belt, priced at $35.81 while Sasha wore a grey flared dress splashed with a monochrome geometric print priced at $75.20.
Both items are available online.
As for Mrs Obama's shimmery grey houndstooth tunic, which she paired with skintight trousers, her look has no doubt provided Mr Gordon with some of the best publicity that money can't buy.
The 25-year-old designer, who has worked for Tom Ford and Oscar de la Renta since graduating from Central Saint Martins College in London, has been on the radar of savvy fashionistas for some time now.
But it is of course the Obama endorsement which will send the Atlanta-born designer into the mainstream.

The designer also launched a capsule collection for U.S. retailer Jones New York.
He had been approached by the store after his Fall 2011 showing, which was staged in February 2010.

Mr Gordon told U.S. newspaper Metro that the collection 'addresses how the modern young woman wants her wardrobe to look.'
He said: 'The idea was to take a little bit of what I do in terms of tailoring and [using] cool material.'
